Celebrating 40 Years of the CED Program

A Vital Program for Community Prosperity

The Community Economic Development (CED) program has been an important source of federal funding for community development corporations (CDCs) for 40 years. The program targets resources exclusively to CDCs to expand business, finance facilities, and create jobs in low-income communities. The CED Celebration will help lay the groundwork for increasing federal funding for the CED program.

Jobs created with CED funds provide living wages, paid leave, fringe benefits, and opportunities for career growth. In addition, employees are also connected to critical support services to remove barriers to long-term employment and economic mobility. And 75% of all of the jobs created with CED funds are filled by individuals with low-incomes. Read our report, Expanding Opportunity: Job Creation and the Community Economic Development Program, by Bob Zdenek. Learn more on the CED Program website.
