This Friday! Advocate for Maximum Funding for HUD and USDA

Join NACEDA and the Campaign for Housing and Community Development Funding for a National Day of Action to ensure maximum federal resources for housing and community development in Fiscal Year 2024. House Republicans have proposed significant cuts to non-defense appropriations, including a 25% cut to Transportation, Housing & Urban Development allocation.

Take action this Friday:

• Contact your Members of Congress and urge them to increase funding for affordable housing, homelessness, and community development programs.
• Use the Call-In Day Script, which includes information about the Day of Action, sample language, and helpful links.
• Review the factsheet on the impacts of flat funding on HUD and USDA affordable housing, homelessness, and community development programs.

Neighborhood Homes Investment Act Introduced in the House

On June 9, Rep. Mike Kelly (R-PA) and Brian Higgins (D-NY) re-introduced the Neighborhood Homes Investment Act that would use a new tax incentive to produce 500,000 homes in under-resourced communities over the next decade. The legislation would address the needs of families throughout the country who are struggling to purchase homes as costs continue to rise and the supply of homes remains limited. NACEDA strongly supports this legislation, which was previously reintroduced by Sen. Ben Cardin (D-MD) and Todd Young (R-IN) in March.

Meet New Leadership at Indiana and California Members

Aspen Clemons becomes Executive Director of Prosperity Indiana tomorrow. She brings more than 10 years of professional experience in policy, strategy, evaluation, and programs in the areas of affordable housing, social justice, poverty, and diversity. Most recently, she served as Deputy Chief Of Staff and Special Advisor for Equity and Innovation at Chicago State University. Clemons shared, “Prosperity Indiana serves a critical role in increasing equity, economic mobility, and access to opportunity. I am excited about returning home to help make Indiana a place where everyone who calls it home is afforded an opportunity to thrive.”

Kiki Poe and Rev. Sophia DeWitt became Interim Co-Directors at East Bay Housing Organizations (EBHO) effective June 1 with support from EBHO’s Former Board President, Natalie Bonnewit. Poe and DeWitt are a dynamic duo who have been with EBHO for nearly six years and served as Interim Co-Directors together once before during Former Executive Director Gloria Bruce's sabbatical.

Poe and DeWitt previously served as the Senior Director of Membership & Operations and Senior Director of Programs at EBHO respectively. Poe said, "I care deeply about EBHO's people and its work as we collectively fight for housing equity. I am excited and humbled to be continuing this important work as Interim Co-Director." DeWitt shared, "I look forward to working with Kiki and the rest of EBHO's staff and Board to continue to advance the organization's vision of a racially and economically just East Bay where everyone has a safe, stable, affordable, and accessible home. This work is critical and I am honored to be in a position to steward it."

Featured Funding Opportunity - CED Planning Grant

The Community Economic Development (CED) Planning Grant provides community development corporations (CDCs) with financial assistance up to $150,000 for administrative capacity building. With increased administrative capacity, CDCs will be better equipped to design a sustainable business project and package a viable competitive application to be submitted in a CED competition within the 12 months of the end of the project period. Apply by July 12.
